Kurjey Lhakhang
Kurjey Lhakhang, located in the Bumthang Valley of Bhutan, is a significant religious and historical site. It is one of the most revered and sacred monasteries in the country. The name “Kurjey” translates to “The Body Imprint,” and the lhakhang is associated with the first three kings of Bhutan.
The monastery complex comprises three main temples, with the largest housing an image of Guru Rinpoche. Guru Rinpoche is a prominent figure in Bhutanese Buddhism, and the lhakhang holds immense religious importance. The second temple is said to house the imprint of Guru Rinpoche’s body on a rock, a manifestation of his spiritual power. The third temple, known as the Tamshing Lhakhang, is equally significant as it was founded by the great Bhutanese saint Pema Lingpa.
Kurjey Lhakhang is not only a center of religious devotion but also a place of historical and architectural significance. The lush green surroundings, the serene atmosphere, and the ancient structures make it a popular destination for both pilgrims and tourists seeking to explore Bhutan’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage.
